What to do if power points are not working, but lights are on?
If your power points are not working but the lights are working, you may have a problem with a faulty appliance which has caused the safety switch to trip.
What is a safety switch?
A safety switch protects people from electric shock. A safety switch monitors the flow of electricity through a circuit and it will turn off the power if a leakage is detected. It is a requirement that all power points in rental properties have a safety switch installed.
What you can do if your power points are not working?
- Turn off and unplug every appliance in your property.
- Turn on the safety switch. If the safety switch trips again, double check that you have turned off and unplugged every appliance including the fridge, dishwasher, microwave, pool pump etc.
- If the safety switch turns on, then turn on each appliance and try and identify which appliance is faulty by checking when the safety switch trips again.
- If the safety switch did not turn on, please let us know so that we can arrange a Licensed Electrician to check your property.
